Garnets deriving there name from the Latin word for grain.  Do to its rounded crystal shape and similarity with the color of a pomegranate seeds.  It is a January birth stone and come in every color of the rainbow from over 20 categories. 5 of which are most common. It has been used as a gemstone and abrasive since the bronze age.

This mineral dates back over 4000 years, most likely from Ethiopia. Opals come in two primary types. Common and opaque or translucent and gemmy. Often used in meditation  and spiritual practices. Known as the birth stone for October.
